Qatar defeated Honduras 2-0 on Tuesday at BBVA Stadium in Houston to take top position in Group D of the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.

After fending off pressure, Homam Ahmed scored in the 25th minute to give Qatar the lead. It was the third time in a row that the Asian champions scored the first goal.

Qatar qualified for the 2021 Gold Cup semi-finals after defeating El Salvador 3-2 in a thrilling quarter-final at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Saturday.

They will face the winner of the match between the United States and Jamaica on Sunday night in the semifinal.

Mutaz Barshim, a two-time world champion from Qatar, wins an Olympic gold medal in high jump in Tokyo, giving Qatar a second gold medal from the 2020 Olympics. Qatar's Barshim shared gold with Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi.
